Reserve, National Guard Units Called Up; October 12, 2001

RESERVE, NATIONAL GUARD UNITS CALLED UP - OCT. 12

An additional 50 members of the Naval Reserve are being called to active duty as part of the partial mobilization authorized by President Bush. This brings the total Naval Reserve called to active duty to 2,400 reservists.

These Naval reservists have been recalled individually based on specific skills, including law enforcement, security, medical, supply, intelligence and other specialties.

At any given time Services may mobilize some units and individuals while demobilizing others, making it is possible for these figures to either increase or decrease.

Total number currently called to active duty for the Army National Guard and Army Reserve is 9,582; Naval Reserve, 2,400; Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, 12,722; Marine Corps Reserve, 333 and the Coast Guard Reserve 2,765. This brings the total Reserve and National Guard called to active duty to 28,802 from 202 units, 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and individual augmentees.
