This is the updated statement:

Our hearts and our prayers go out to the families of the countless people, including many members of the Port Authority familiy, who were killed today in this brutal and cowardly attack.

We at the Port Authority are doing everything in our power to rescue and care for the injured, and to comfort and assist the families of the victims. We will work tirelessly and with all the resources at our disposal to cooperate with federal, state and local law enforcement and civilian authorities. The perpetrators who inflicted this terrible carnage on thousands of innocent and peace-loving men, women and children must be apprehended and brought to justice.

All Port Authority airports are closed until further notice. The westbound lanes of the Staten Island Bridges and the westbound upper level of the George Washington Bridge have re-opened. Other Port Authority bridge and tunnel crossings are closed except for emergency vehicles. Additional lanes will be re-opened as conditions permit. PATH service has been suspended until further notice. We will resume services as soon as possible. The Port Authority Bus Terminal is closed until further notice.

A special emergency number is being set up to help family members contact Port Authority employees.

Additional updates will be provided as conditions warrant.
